Granville has set up his own Santa's grotto but Dexter is happy to dress up as an elf as he is disguising himself to escape the hulking boyfriend of his latest admirer whilst Mrs Featherstone is also in pursuit - of timid Mr Newbold, largely to make Granville jealous. As Eric's wife Cath attempts to rehearse her choir for the local carol contest the once debonair Cliff Bridges reappears, anxious to get back with his wife Elsie. Despite the efforts of Granville and the other menfolk the couple do reconcile but the choir is less successful, due to an out of date stock of Dr Proctor's Fiery Chest Pastilles. When the local menfolk have trouble keeping their underpants up Granville comes up with the solution - braces - whilst himself investing in a strange device which gives an electrical charge when he feels attracted to women, spelling disaster on a date with Mavis. Granville sells off some out of date mints as aphrodisiacs but they turn the customers' tongues green whilst Eric, Mr Newbold and Cyril attempt to impress their womenfolk by pretending to go white water rafting but the effort falls flat. Impressing Mrs Featherstone is the last thing on Granville's mind as she tricks him into going on a car ride with her but he is getting ever closer to cosying up with Mavis. Granville has a plan to sell out of date Christmas puddings by passing them off as a high energy food which will increase the libido - fooling gullible male customers into hoping it will excite their wives. He is also still trying to persuade Gastric to woo Madge by ridding her of the ghost she believes to be haunting her house. Anxious to unload a wheel of mouldy cheese Granville tries to persuade his customers that eating it is what makes Mr Newbold attractive to women though Mr Newbold himself is trying to break free from Mrs Featherstone's clutches. Granville intends to unload a job lot of turnips onto his gullible customers by persuading them that a slice of turnip attached to their ankle by a rubber band will act as a panacea for all ills but hits trouble when Mrs Featherstone, drunk on Mr Newbold's sister's home-made wine, makes advances to him. Gossip starts when an attractive young woman comes looking for Eric and although her mission is platonic eyebrows are raised when they are both seen peering into a pram used by Granville to promote his turnips. Granville is still anxious for Gastric to divert a miserable Madge so he can have Mavis to himself but the plan, floating smiling face balloons outside her window does not work . And the introduction of a huge toy mouse to replace the balloons is an even bigger disaster, as is Eric's attempts to explain to his wife why he has a woman's stocking in his pocket.
