Pete decides to leave because of his feelings towards Sharon and ends up in Paris. He meets a woman on the plane that ends up stealing his money. Now that Pete has left, Ashley is making her mark on the apartment. Sharon returns home to Johnny but acts as though nothing had happened. It turns out Sharon is afraid of making a life-long commitment, despite loving Johnny. However, she changes her mind and accepts his proposal, an engagement which she calls 'in theory'. Pete returns from Paris with a French girlfriend, Colette. However, she doesn't speak English and Pete doesn't speak French and, when he finally gets a translator, Pete finds out that she is racist. Berg employs a new boy in the pizza place called Germ and Berg is having trouble with the generation gap. When Germ organises a naked band to play at the pizza place Berg decides that he has had enough of the place. Sharon final commits 100% to Johnny and proposes to him - the wedding is on. Ashley and Berg finally start as interns. Berg is being strongly worked by the resident doctor and feels he is being picked on. It seems that Berg's commitment was being questioned but he is determined to prove her wrong. Pete helps Johnny with some work and has some unfortunate accidents. He is worried that Johnny is trying to hurt him because of his past feelings for Sharon. Pete ends up having the last word. Written by jem

Pete's work at the employment agency is not going well and he is under pressure to fill a new job vacancy. He tries to get Sharon to do it, who has just been complimented on her ability to distort the truth. She doesn't get the job so Pete intervenes to help her, unsuccessfully. Sharon quits her job but doesn't have one to go to. Ashley's ex husband turns up at the hospital and Berg has an interesting conversation with him. Berg wants to know more about their relationship. There is a rat loose in the apartment and Ashley is determined to get it. Written by jem

They are all about to go to the football, courtesy of Pete, when Irene turns up. She has just been released from a hospital and is still a bit unstable. They have trouble getting to the football as Sharon and Ashley become very competitive and are continually changing their outfits. The group then decide to go the pictures instead but talk of Sharon and Johnny's wedding arrangements causes a big argument. They then change their minds and decide to go out to dinner. Nothing goes right and they end up eating in the apartment with take away. Written by jem

It's Halloween and Johnny finds a creepy room in the basement of the apartment building. The room is inhabited by a mad scientist, Ed, who captures Pete and Ashley and swaps their brains. He then does the same thing with Berg and Sharon. Johnny comes down and rescues them but is unable to swap their brains. The confusion causes considerable difficulty in the relationships. Eventually, Johnny decides to try and use the equipment to put each persons brain back in the right person. He succeeds, except for Sharon. Written by jem

Sharon surprises a session of marriage counselling on Johnny. It also turns out that they want the same wedding date as another couple. Sharon becomes very competitive to ensure that they get the date and tells a bit of a white lies. Johnny is very upset and doesn't want it on his conscience. He forces her to confess what she has done. Berg finally realises that he and Ashley are living together, and he is not happy. Ashley thinks the problem is Pete and tries to bribe him but, instead, she finds out that Berg is really the problem. Written by jem

Berg surprises Ashley by taking her on a visit to his parents. Berg's mother and Ashley do not hit it off initially, and Berg is in the middle. The conflict between Ashley and Berg's mother escalates but all it does is give his mother more respect for Ashley. However, Berg is unhappy and he breaks up with Ashley after the visit. Sharon is unhappy about the intimate side of her life with Johnny, thinking it's a bit boring. She confides to Pete about the problem and he tries to help by giving some big hints to Johnny. It turns out Sharon and Johnny both want the same thing but were worried about expressing their feelings to each other. Written by jem

Berg has just broken up with Ashley but she hasn't moved to a new apartment yet so he is now sleeping on the couch. It's Thanksgiving and Pete takes pity on Irene and invites her to dinner with the group. Ashley invites a bum, Chet, to dinner as well. By looking at their rubbish, Chet shows amazing wisdom into all their relationships, although not always accurate. He tells Berg Ashley is pregnant and tells Pete Irene is a gun nut. However, he has an ulterior motive for his insights. Johnny is worried that Sharon is spending too much money since she lost her job and is living beyond their means. They offer to rent Ashley their spare room to make money. Written by jem

Pete is helping Ashley move up to Johnny and Sharon's apartment. But just as she leaves, Pete's grandfather, Charlie, moves in. He left his wife but didn't tell her where he was going. Charlie has serious liver damage and doesn't have long to live. However, he hasn't told Pete yet. Johnny is having a lot of trouble coping with two women in the apartment, particularly when it comes to matters of privacy. He accidentally sees Ashley topless and then surprises her in the shower. Unable to afford the cost of the apartment, Sharon and Johnny are offered the basement rent free as long as they are the building superintendents. It's a studio apartment so Ashley has to find somewhere else to live. She decides to rent the apartment, with a new roommate Victor. Sharon finds out Johnny has a little nest egg, which he has been saving for a special project. There was parcel for Pete delivered but Irene signed for it. However, her room full of cats has deterred him from collecting it. Ashley gets it for him in exchange for moving her furniture. Written by jem

It's New Year's Eve and Sharon is planning a party complete with Karaoke. Berg and Ashley who are recently broken up try to be civil with each other. Berg runs into Robert Goulet at the hospital who's not feeling well and he's suppose to be going to Las Vegas to perform but Berg tells him he can't fly. But Goulet says he has to perform so Berg tells him of Sharon's karaoke party which is happy to attend. Also Ashley who's dating a new doctor at the hospital is upset with Berg when because of him her date has to work. And Pete needing a date decides to asks Irene who is willing to be his date. After Ashley and Berg's brief reconciliation, Ashley is unsure about what to do. The Dan Band sing as they act as the consciences of Ashley and Sharon during this episode. Ashley and Sharon try to play Trivial Pursuit but Ashley just wants to drink and talk about Berg. Whilst drunk Sharon invites Ashley to her wedding, which causes problems with Berg. Sharon initially tries to deter her from coming to he wedding. The boys go to the laundromat and find it has changed a bit. It has become their new hangout. They also have considerable trouble getting the washing done and Berg and Johnny's behaviour gets them kicked out. Written by jem

Berg and Ashley continue to have their on-off relationship. Ashley's disposal unit is broken and, when Johnny is fixing it, she inadvertently insults him. He storms off leaving her to fix it, badly. Sharon wants a very expensive wedding dress but Johnny would like her to buy a cheaper dress that is on sale. Berg and Pete go with Sharon to buy her dress only to find somebody else wants the same dress. She uses some underhand tactics to get the dress. Written by jem

Ashley has a new boyfriend, Nomar Garciaparra, the baseball player and Berg is becoming jealous. Sharon is organising a charity bachelor auction for the children's wing and gets Berg and Pete to participate. Berg, in particular, is taking it very seriously. Pete has problems when Irene is the winning bidder and Berg gets disgraces himself by getting drunk. Sharon and Johnny have a garage sale to get rid of unwanted items, which is causing problems as wanted and defective items were sold. Written by jem

Pete is finding his job as a cosmetic salesman unfulfilling and so he decides to become a fireman. He volunteers at the local station. On the first day he suffers the usual rookie stirring and is disappointed that he is confined to cleaning duties. Sharon volunteers at the hospital reading to the children. There is a food poisoning outbreak and all doctors are needed to do extra duty. Sharon is also affected and is admitted to the hospital. Johnny is then worried because wedding arrangements are getting behind. Berg is trying to do too much and sends a patient into shock because he was too tired to do the job properly. Written by jem

Pete is Ashley's caddy in a golf tournament. As they head to the tournament they are mugged on the underground railway station. They are stranded without money to get home so Pete gets creative in order to get some. Berg's mistake in emergency has caused him to lose confidence in his ability in the hospital. Johnny and Sharon are supposed to be writing their own vows and Sharon is worried that Johnny is not doing his vows properly. It turns out that Sharon hasn't written hers either. Written by jem

Berg is still on probation and so he was transferred to the morgue where he can't do any more damage. He finds himself very attracted to the funeral home worker. Johnny ruins a wall in Irene's place and she is forced to spend the night with Johnny and Sharon. She brings her two cats that she wants to breed, which keeps Johnny and Sharon awake. Irene and Sharon hit it off and Johnny becomes upset. There is a new trainee fireman, Marti, and she is determined to be the next proper fireman instead of Pete. Things become very competitive at the training day. Written by jem

Sharon is busy organising her wedding and it gets in the way of her friendship with Pete and Berg. Berg is trying to resurrect the past and returns with Pete and Sharon to the bar that they used when they were in college. The night deteriorates when Johnny turns up. During a CPR exercise, Marti uses the dummy after Pete without wiping it and Pete reads into it that Marti likes him. He decides to go after her without her knowing. Written by jem

Johnny does some renovations in his apartment and knocks out the power. Berg is still looking for a way off probation and he is required to follow a doctor around and work under scrutiny. He lends his key to her so she can use his apartment for a sleep. It turns out she wants to use it for a quickie. When Sharon also uses the apartment for a charity board meeting things get complicated. Pete accidentally leaves his make-up samples at the fire station. The fire chief sees what he does and asks him to fix the make-up on his daughter, which he does successfully. Pete suddenly finds he has a new career. Written by jem

Shawn appears at Johnny and Sharon's place. She is pregnant and needs a partner at her Lamaze class. Johnny volunteers but Sharon is not entirely happy. Pete has been mopping the floors at the fire station and Marti injured herself when she slipped on the wet floor. She goes to the hospital where she meets Berg and he asks her out. Pete is not happy when this happens. Germ is taking his orderly job at the hospital far too seriously and is starting to irritate the staff. Written by jem

Pete and Berg have been fighting about Marti and are talking about splitting up. Pete is wanting to go to a fireman's boot camp and is disappointed when his acceptance letter doesn't arrive. It turns out it was just misplaced and he is accepted. Pete goes round to Marti's place and they finally express their feeling for each other. Berg remains on probation and, being upset, goes home to his parents, only to find out his father had a one night stand and has split from his mother. Ashley takes up a petition to get Berg reinstated. Sharon and Johnny are having second thoughts about the wedding. They open up a joint bank account and Sharon makes all the decisions, and Johnny is not happy. Written by jem

Pete and Berg are still fighting, and Pete and Marti are definitely going out together. Irene sees Pete and Marti kissing and she hyperventilates. She deludes herself that Marti must have been a hooker. Sharon had cancelled the wedding bookings and they were unable to make the bookings again after they reconciled. They decide to have a fast wedding, which Irene promised to organise for the next day. They have the wedding the next day. Robert Goulet is the wedding celebrant and the music is provided by a Mexican mariachi band. At the last minute, Sharon once again has doubts but there is a happy ending. Written by jem
