The armed robbery of an armored truck by five masked criminals with specially built armor-piercing bullets hits close to home with Michelle, who recognizes the slain cop from their days together at the police academy. As Toby helps her retain her shaken objectivity, a new police superintendent puts a lot of unneeded pressure on Alvin to solve the case quickly. Tia calls Toby when her reporter colleague and friend is taken to the hospital. It appears the woman jumped from her apartment balcony, but Tia doesn't believe it. Toby asks Michelle if IIB could look into it, and they start by going to her apartment. There are no signs to make them think she didn't jump, but Toby notices some things are missing. They learn that a man whom she wrote a story about has a grudge against her, but he has an alibi. He then tells them to look at her editor. It seems they've been having an affair, but when they rule him out, they decide to look at a businessman whom she thinks is not exactly on the up and up. IIB investigates when a frozen body is found in a storage locker along with stolen goods and a computer belonging to a defense contractor. There's concern that classified material could have been on it. In talking to the contractor, she says there was nothing of importance in the computer, but Toby senses she's keeping something from them. They identify the dead man and visit his wife, who says he left her about six months ago. They learn she's seeing a new guy shortly after he left, which makes them curious. Violent thieves disguised as cops run amok. As one dies, shot by his own cohort, Toby gets a read to see a face from his own young hellion past. With his wayward childhood friend as an in, Toby willingly goes undercover to infiltrate the group, lead by a homicidal leader. As a prosecutor preps her witness against an alleged mobster, someone shoots, hitting the witness, and the team is tasked with finding the shooter. An FBI agent shows up, saying he believes the shooter is someone he's been pursuing. Michelle doesn't like being told that they have to work with him. They talk to the mobster and Toby senses the man might not be involved. They then talk to one of his associates who's not exactly forthcoming, but Toby senses something. When the witness wakes up, they talk to him and deduce that the mobster might not have committed the crime he's accused of. When the prosecutor learns of this, she's not happy. Toby, Oz, Sandy and Tia attend an MMA fight in which the rising star favorite suddenly dies. Toxicology identifies steroids as the killer as Toby recalls the man's last thought toward his corner, Why did you do this to me? Now the IIB has to determine to whom that thought was directed. Toby and Michelle lead the IIB investigation in the death of a tattooed woman with a dual identity. It seems to have something to do with a past death in a fire but also with a real estate deal. When a British agent is killed, the team investigates, wondering if he was killed to get information from him. A surveillance video reveals he was with a woman, possibly an enemy agent or assassin. It turns out she's just a bored housewife, who met him via a website that allows people - most of whom are married and looking for a dalliance - to meet secretly. Another man who used the website was also killed in the same manner. Since both men resembled each other, there may be a serial killer at large. if so, IIB posts a profile hoping any killer out there will take the bait. Mentally, she's quite the slippery eel, with an evasive mind that Toby finds difficult to read with any accuracy, which could lead to Michelle's downfall as she deals directly with Mr. Tarkanian. As IIB investigates its connection with falsified passports, a roadblock emerges in the form of Superintendent Nichola Martrell, who suspends Alvin Klein and redirects the team down blind allies. Someone's feeding her bad intel, and the investigation tiptoes very carefully around her to turn up an undercover agent and his set-up to bring down two crime factions in an internecine meeting. Having alerted the team to investigate it, Toby begins to crumble from having shot and killed a man, confronting an armed suspect with uncharacteristic death wish behavior.
