Monk is bored. Dr. Kroeger suggests he find a hobby. Monk is called by Stottlemeyer to investigate a man who was killed while trying to break into a junkyard. The owner has no idea why the guy broke into the yard. Natalie suggests he try painting and the owner says he has all the materials he needs. So Monk tries but doesn't exactly do a good job. But a Russian shows up and buys the painting he did and is willing to buy any others he does. Monk learns that the owner of the junkyard was killed. Stollemeyer learns the only thing taken was part of his log book so they find the guy who works for him to find out what was in the missing pages. Marci Maven is accused of negligent homicide because her neighbor claims that her dog killed his wife. But she claims her dog died a few days ago. So she turns to Monk whom she's obsessed with for help. When he refuses to see her, she buys him at a bachelor auction. Early one evening, Captain Stottlemeyer's girlfriend Linda Fusco chats with him on Skype, during which Monk and Natalie walk in. 20 minutes after Linda signs off, her business partner Sean Corcoran is killed by a masked shotgun-wielding assailant while on an open-house tour, but the shooter leaves the couple who witnessed the attack alive. Monk and Natalie are sent to investigate, and are horrified to find that all of the evidence points to Linda as the killer. There's one problem: her alibi is that she was at her house talking to them on the webcam and she couldn't have made it from her house to the crime scene in 20 minutes. Monk must hence investigate the murder and find a way to arrest Linda without jeopardizing his friendship with Stottlemeyer. Written by dmcreif

Sports agent Rob Sherman hires a career burglar, Dewey Jordan, to burglarize his house as part of an insurance scam, which turns out to be his cover up for a murder. As soon as Dewey enters the house, Sherman shoots him dead with one gun. When his wife comes downstairs to investigate the noise, Sherman shoots her with another gun, which he plants in Dewey's hand to frame the 'burglar' for the second murder. Monk is brought in to investigate, and immediately suspects Sherman, but Sherman has covered his tracks very well. Meanwhile, Natalie's daughter Julie is having relationship problems with her boyfriend Tim Sussman when she starts seeing a quarterback named Clay Bridges. Monk is upset that Dr. Kroeger is socializing with Harold Krenshaw. When Kroeger says he's concerned about his son, Monk offers to help. Monk goes to see him. He says that he and his friends found what appears to be a treasure map and he wants Monk to help him find it. They find some cash but he thinks there is more. So they go out there. At the same time Stollemeyer is investigating a bank robbery and somehow, the treasure map and it are linked. Written by [email protected]

The feud between Monk and Harold Krenshaw is still going on. A costumed daredevil known as the Frisco Fly is going around climbing buildings and jumping off them. When something goes wrong with his latest attempt, people come to help him. When they remove his costume, it's revealed that he is Krenshaw. Monk doesn't believe he's the daredevil, even though he doesn't deny it. Stollemeyer finds the body of a man which burned inside his car. But they learn that the man didn't from the fire but from when his car crashed. They find traces of latex which is the same material the Frisco Fly costumed is made of. Monk has been killed by his friend, Stottlemeyer. or has he? The captain helped Monk fake his death, so they can track down whose been framing Monk.
