Adam survives the assassination attempt by Angela Wells but while he is in hospital recovering, major terrorist attacks are directed against fuel depots crippling British industry and the standard of living. Just as Adam is released from hospital, some people start to die of a strange bacteriological infection spreading panic in the general population. Working with MI-6 chief Michael Collingwood and one of his agents, Ros Myers, Harry Pearce comes to the conclusion that there is a move within certain parts of the British government and civil service to bring in a new political and administrative order. Jo is sent to keep an eye on the Prime Minister's son, a university student, and others in the section take on new roles. One member of the MI-5 team does not survive and it is apparent that the conspirators will stop at nothing to achieve their goals. Meanwhile, Adam hires a nanny, Jenny, to take care of Wes. Juliet Shaw was severely injured in the attempt on their lives and is recovering in hospital. The third planned attack - having two commercial airliners collide in mid-air - is foiled by Zaf at the regional air control center but MI-5 finds itself nearly alone fighting the forces within and outside the British government who are in effect staging a coup d'etat. As the noose starts to tighten - the Home Secretary cannot get in to see the Prime Minister and Harry Pearce is arrested and detained, as is a nationally known advocate of civil liberties - Jo Portman tries to get the Prime Minister's son into London so he can tell his father what is going on. MI-6 agent Ros Myers, whose father is one of the conspirators, has been helping Adam with information but Adam detains her her in the hopes that she will throw her lot in with them. Zaf is undercover with a group of Al Qaeda terrorists who plan on exploding a thermobaric bomb in central London. Adam's solution is to buy the bomb before the terrorists do and thereby protect Operation Waterfall, a plan to recruit would be terrorists to their side and the main purpose of Zaf's assignment. Ros Myers has joined Adam's team but is anything but friendly. MI-5 targets Iain Kallis as the man they'll buy the bomb from while they recruit one of the terrorists' former girlfriend in an attempt to turn him. Meanwhile, Harry Pearce surprises Ruth when he asks her out for dinner. She's not too pleased however when everyone in the office seems to know their business. Written by garykmcd

The UK Foreign Secretary is hosting the Addressing Africa conference with the hope of re-shaping the North-South trade relationship. MI-6 has intercepted a conversation between the French and the Americans that indicates their earlier support for the British initiative is now waning. MI-5 has the meeting bugged and blanketed with CCTV. A conversation with the US Secretary of State and the Japanese Foreign Minister eventually gives them the edge they need to beat them at their game. Their work isn't over however. When MI-6 intercepts another call, they believe that one of the African delegates, Gabriel Sekoa, will be assassinated. It turns out Sekoa may not be the beacon of hope that he's made himself to be. Ruth Evershed finds herself in the middle of an investigation when a man for whom she provided change at a tube station commits suicide by jumping in front of the train. The man, it turns out, was Mik Maudsley at one time the head of security for the prison system and someone who was present at Cotterdam prison, the site of a major fire. The Special Branch report on the incident is due out that same day and it turns out to be a complete whitewash. Ruth is convinced that her meeting Maudsley was intentional and that he has left her a series of clues to follow. Harry Pearce decides to take on Oliver Mace, but he's quite prepared to play hardball and is quite prepared to accuse Ruth of having pushed Maudsley into the train. Written by garykmcd

The UK government's decision to sell nuclear reactors to Saudi Arabia raises many concerns in the the various services but MI-5's immediate concern is that one of four Saudi Officials arriving in the UK may have a money connection to Al Qaeda. At the same time, they know a group of terrorists have been smuggled into the UK in a shipping container. It is apparent that they want to scuttle the UK-Saudi deal. Ros goes undercover to infiltrate the four visiting Saudis and gets an invitation to a reception at the Saudi Trade Office. The terrorists are one step ahead of them however. Unbeknown to MI-5, they also have a rogue agent in their midst. Adam meanwhile is still having stress reactions that are affecting both his home and professional life. Written by garykmcd

A group of terrorists take the occupants of the Saudi-Arabian trade center hostage threatening to kill one person every hour until their demand for the release of certain prisoners within Saudi-Arabia are met. Harry Pearce is less than pleased when he learns that MI-5 video surveillance of a suspected terrorist, Khalid Mansour, has been ruled inadmissible and that Mansour will be set free. On the steps of the courthouse moments after being released however, Mansour is shot and killed with the assassin, Daniel Ellis, promptly committing suicide. After a second suicide attack claims the life of a radical Muslim cleric, an anti-Islamic organization known as the Sons of Phineas claim responsibility. Though they have no information on the organization, MI-5 focuses on Steven Paynton, who runs a homeless shelter where both men lived before their attacks. They set up a sting to try and get Paynton to give them information on others he may have recruited to his cause. With racial tensions rising across Britain, Adam goes undercover to rope him in but when his young son disappears, he fears his job may cost him what is left of his family. Written by garykmcd

Adam Carter finds himself hunting for a onetime friend, Richard Dempsey, when Harry Pearce orders the man assassinated. Dempsey was once an agent but apparently went over tot he other side during the Bosnian war. He was present when Adam was captured and brutally tortured and since has become an assassin. A top Serb commander Niko Grecic is under MI-5 protection after he turned in the notorious Serb General Marko Tezila and will be testifying against him at the upcoming war crimes trial in Brussels. When they learn that Dempsey is in the UK, they are sure he is there to assassinate Grecic. When Adam finally catches up to him, he has a different story to tell, sending them all off in a completely different direction. Written by garykmcd

Environmental terrorists take control of the Thames barrier just as a major storm surge threatens to flood the London area. They demand that the British government publish a secret document entitled Aftermath but MI-5 can't find it. It's apparent that the Deputy Prime Minster, the PM is away, knows far more than she is saying. Adam meanwhile continues to struggle with post-traumatic stress syndrome. When he enters the facility to negotiate with the terrorists, he suffers an attack and is unable to function. It's left to Ros to find a way in and convince their captors that they've won and the document will be published. Written by garykmcd
