In a parallel society, humanoid robots, hubots, are used for household chores or sexual favors. A band of emancipated hubots are hiding in the countryside, led by the hubot Niska. With them is also the human Leo, searching for the hubot Mimi that he has fallen in love with. Mimi has in fact been kidnapped and sold to the Engman family, renamed to Anita. Next to the Engmans live Roger PÃ¥lsson who bears a grudge to hubots since his wife Therese moved out, preferring the company of her exercise hubot instead. Leo visits Hubot Heaven, a brothel where hubots sell sex to humans, to find Mimi. The Engmans appreciate all the households chores that Anita (Mimi) do for the family, include mowing the lawn and reading bedtime stories. Only Inger Engman remain suspicious and when money has been stolen, she accuses Mimi of theft. Police inspector Beatrice Novak begin to investigate the murder of two humans and suspect a group of rogue hubots. Niska and the hubots are hiding in the forest but they need electricity to recharge. The rogue group of hubots led by Niska have found shelter in a rural vicarage. Inger's father Lennart is unhappy with his hubot Vera whom he finds controlling and has secretly kept his previous hubot Odi in his basement. Leo visits the brothel Hubot Heaven in search of Mimi the hubot and is employed as a computer hacker. Mimi is working for the Engman family and has started to suffer flashbacks from her earlier life with Leo. Roger PÃ¥lsson goes to a meeting with a group, Real Humans, who wants to restrict the use of hubots and there he meets the postman Malte and the police inspector Beatrice Novak. Leo find himself tied up to be killed by one of the hubot trappers. At the Engman household, Matilda stay home sick and help bring out the memories of Anita's past as Mimi. Therese and Pilar is offered a settlement from the club that refused entry to their hubots. At the vicarage, Ã…sa the priest is hiding the rogue hubots in the attic, but there is discord among them if they should stay or not. Leo is weak, but does everything he can to get to Mimi's house, where Matilda is beginning to uncover the truth about Anita. Bea arrives at Roger's job with a black eye. Lennart is offered the chance to make a hubot copy of himself.

Tobias witnesses an assault and decides to take the law into his own hands. After some bad news, Roger loses his cool at work. Lennart feels alive again in his blossoming romance with Solveig.

Inger finally sees Leo. He warns her to protect Mimi and wants her to pass on a note. Bea comes out to Roger.
